Green Cleaning Award for Schools and Universities

Green Cleaning Award for Schools & Universities

The demands and complications caused by the ongoing presence of COVID-19 and uncertainty surrounding many school and school district reopenings have led HGSC and AS&U Magazine to postpone the 2020 Green Cleaning Awards.

About the Award

The Green Cleaning Award for Schools & Universities recognizes, rewards and highlights actions that demonstrate exemplary leadership in the management and implementation of green cleaning practices in schools.

Presented by Healthy Green Schools & Colleges and American School & University magazine, the Green Cleaning Award for Schools and Universities is based on the 5 Steps to Green Cleaning in Schools. Winners are profiled in American School & University magazine, receive a complimentary registration to the 2020 ISSA Show North America, and are recognized at a special event during the ISSA show. They will also be featured in a profile on the Healthy Green Schools & College website to highlight their accomplishments and share their successes with other institutions.

The Green Cleaning Award is the only award in the country that honors and recognizes K-12 and higher education institutions for their green cleaning programs. It’s a valuable and unique opportunity to recognize staff and communicate all your school is doing to improve the health of your community and environment.

Through the Green Cleaning Award, we’ve been privileged to learn about many dedicated cleaning programs doing inspiring work for the health of their students, staff and communities. From small schools beginning their green cleaning journey to large universities and school districts raising the bar to new heights, applicants have consistently taught us new lessons on the value of green cleaning and why we must keep going.

Application Process

This year, we’re expanding our awards categories beyond institutions to also recognize individual leadership in green cleaning. The Custodial Leadership Award honors front line custodial workers who exemplify extraordinary leadership in supporting their school’s green cleaning program and actively engaging with their organization, students and peers to advance its impact. The Leadership in Management Award rewards individuals in facility management who demonstrate leadership both in addressing health and environmental impacts and engaging their community, team members and partners through green cleaning.
