Thank you to all who applied for the 2017 Green Cleaning Award for Schools & Universities! We always look forward to reviewing your applications. Your applications left us feeling inspired about the future of the green cleaning movement.
This year we heard from schools and universities from nearly every region of the country, all clearly committed to protecting health and the environment and working hard to do so. We love how these applications give us a glimpse into what’s happening in cleaning programs on the ground across the country.
While the competition was stiff this year, a handful of schools really stood out. This year’s winners have gone the extra distance to make their schools healthier for students and staff with less cleaning chemicals, more efficient processes and innovative training programs. What’s more? They’re engaging their communities behind their green cleaning efforts.
We believe these winners are leading the way for health, the environment and the green cleaning movement. We will be featuring case studies on each winner on our website and in our newsletter over the next few months. Stay tuned to learn more about what these programs are doing that’s groundbreaking, and hear advice from the heads of each custodial services department.

The Green Cleaning Award for Schools & Universities is the only award dedicated solely to recognizing schools and their facility leaders for the tireless work of promoting clean, healthy and sustainable school buildings. Presented by Healthy Schools Campaign, American School & University magazine and the Green Cleaning Network, it highlights schools with innovative, health-focused and environmentally minded cleaning programs. Judging criteria are based on our 5 Steps to Green Cleaning in Schools.
